"greige" walls and tan carpet?

Anonymous
Thinking about painting our apartment grayish. I know that gray is such a hot color now for walls and I love the look of it. The place, unfortunately, has tan carpet. Will gray look horrible with the carpet? Or should we go for it, knowing that the color will look so nice anyway? I'm thinking a pale gray, instead of beige. I just hate beige.

I think it will look bad and I wouldn't do it, but google "gray paint tan carpet" and decide for yourself.

Which gray? How tan is the carpet? What color are the walls now?

Ok only if the grieige is more beige. Tans tend to be warm, greiges are usually cooler.

Depends on the greige and the tan. I just painted the family room Revere Pewter and it came out pretty gray (more so than the sample for some reason). Current carpet looks gold/tan now so I'm replacing it with a lighter, more neutral, natural tan color Berber and it works. It also depends on the color of furniture you'll have in the room.

I love gray too but not with beige. (I'm not a fan of beige either.)

I'd try something like Alexandra beige by Benjamin Moore if you can't changed the carpet:

Gray and beige can be a depressing combo. You want something crisp.
