going rate for a painter?

What would you pay a professional painter to paint your 2 bedroom apartment?
~2 bedrooms
~small hallway
~living room/dining room combo
~lofted ceiling and loft

It's not a very big place...average sized. The guy is a professional (not a hired worker from the street corner.) Going rate?

It depends on what kind of prep work the apartment needs. Dry wall in good shape needs very little. Old plaster walls can need tons. I'd say $2,500 in the former case.
