| DD is a freshman and is taking $50/week out of her bank account (money she earned from a summer job). Is this reasonable? |
|
1) Seems reasonable.
2) It's her money and she's taking it out of her account. It's not your business, unless she's on track to run out and is expecting to you then give her extra. |
| Stop monitoring her bank account. It's her money. Let her find out on her own what happens when it runs out. |
| It doesn't seem like enough to spend on booze, drugs, or fancy clothes. She's probably going out to eat with her friends 2-3 times a week. |
| It's her money, you should not even be privy to this. |
| Helicopter much? |
| That's $200/month. Sounds very reasonable. Spending all depends on where the college is, what the social life is like, etc. One of my kids went to a SLAC in a remote location. Very little to spend money on for social activities but she did spend money on clothes. The other goes to college in a big city and goes out to dinner and other more expensive activities on a regular basis. But doesn't spend much on clothing. |
|
Are you supplying her with clothing allowance, does she have a full meal plan? Do you cover her books and school supplies?
I think 50 is quite reasonable Laundry+a movie+ coffee+ occasional haircut+ toiletries+ school supplies+ occasional fast food? |
|
It depends on how much you want her to spend on drinks or how many frat parties she'll attend to get drinks for free.
Seriously, it sounds like the right amount to get by on a weekly basis on campus. If she needs more, you'll hear about it. |
Additional: if she needs more, maybe she should get a job at the campus book store. Time to grow up. |
I's much better if your D doesn't have to rely on the kindness of strangers... |
| *It's |
The kid is spending money she earned. Time to hold your tongue. |

Daughter, limited meal plan, school in expensive city, likes to eat out, does not drink alcohol, we supply $400 a month. She has a scholarship valued at about 75% of tuition and room/board. She is my girly girl.
Daughter, full meal plan, school in small college town, likes pizza, does not drink alcohol, we supply $200 a month. She has a full-ride. They work in the summer to fund school clothes and spring break trip to warm climates. School grants covers books for both girls. |
| DD, off campus apartment, girly girl, drinks alcohol, eats fresh organic, expensive city. So far looks like $650 per month and lots of Uber charges (which we agreed to tie to my credit card). |
