I've been looking for new fixtures to replace my 90's era brass chandelier, etc. and I'm seeing the option of brass everywhere! I've seen a lot of high end interior designs that utilize brass as well. Is this trend coming back? |
I hope not. |

It is, but no one can make you use it.
And no one could stop you from using it when it wasn't in. |
It's back but in a different than 80-90s way. Brass as part of a mid century revival. Brass is now not always as shiny as before and paired with light colors as opposed to dark. It's used as its own as an accent color. Less of it and used as an accent. Brass handles on a white dresser looks lovely. All brass faucets and towel bars reflecting everything still looks dated. |
Brass is definitely back in the kitchen, but is still a "trend" piece and not a universal must-have like, say granite countertops were 10 years ago. We're doing a white modern kitchen right now and I tried to push my husband into brass cabinet pulls, but he wanted none of it. It's definitely "out there" enough that i had to appreciate his position and not force the issue. Chrome cabinet hardware is sooooo old right now, so I'm trying to do something creative with hardware that doesn't make my kitchen look like a kitchen that could have been designed 10 years ago. But not many other options right now, other than brass. Google it - lots of beautiful brass kitchens right now.
That said, your 90s brass light probably looks like a 90s brass light, so toss it. 2015 brass has cleaner lines, industrial and modern undertones. I haven't seen brass showing up elsewhere yet (like, no door hardware yet). |
Yes, but it's "French gold" not the same as your 80s brass. |
OP- I definitely want to ditch the old stuff I have (came with the house). Just wondering if I replace with "new brass" it is just a trend and will be dated in a couple of years, or if nickel/chrome is going the way of 90's brass. |
Please no. |
If Donald Trump wins the presidency, fixtures in White House will all be changed to brass or gold. |
People, I don't know what planet you're living on but of course brass is back. Pick up any design magazine i.e. House Beautiful, Elle Decor, AD, etc.
Thank God my husband defers to any design decision I make. |
Brushed brass, not shiny brass.
|
Yes, but it's not the shiny brass everyone had in the 80's, it's a matt finish and looks really nice. However, it's now fine to mix metals in a room- you don't have to be matchy-match on all of your finishes. |
I agree. Are the doubters not on home-design blogs or Pinterest? I think the brushed brass looks good with the grey trend especially. |
Shiny brass is also in, just depends. |
