Tell your Personal Connection or Nepotism Story

Did it happen to you or someone in your office? I just want to hear fairytale stories of jobs dropping into people's laps.

At our office, a woman appeared, they created a high level job for her and then took over our last small and very popular conference room (with window) to make an office for her. It wasn't my group so I don't know how it was presented to her "boss" but I know that it was the VP who made it happen.

I hired my nephew as an intern. It didn't work out. I would have fired him, but decided that he was going to leave soon enough, and I did not need the drama. I will never hire someone I can't fire again

I arranged for my kid's unpaid internship in the department next door. They needed the help and my kid was able to fill the niche and get some experience.
I got an interview through a personal connection, but they could have rejected me if they did not like me. My connection was respected but not high enough in the organization to influence selection, much less create jobs.
I have also interviewed many candidates referred by their friends or relatives in the organization. If the referral could speak to the candidate's professional qualities, I would take it into account, but I never felt obligated to give someone the job just because I know/like the referring person. But maybe you are not asking about the ordinary referral process that exists in many companies.

I have seen several instances of people getting high-level jobs created for them through personal connections (nepotism is family connection). It was not pretty and caused a lot of resentment. People in these jobs were despised behind their backs and no one believed their professional creds even if they had them.

OP here- the one case I saw, there wasn't resentment just a lot of weirdness and yes it caused gossip.
Anyone have fairytale stories? Anyone dream about it but without the resentment !!?

A defense contractor manager, who served, hired previous friends who also served, into engineering positions at the high end of the salary range. Yearly limited promotions went to the friends and when the manager passed, upper management realized the friends, most of which, all had terrible performance. As time went, said friends left the company after years of minimal work.

good:

VPs kid got hired as an intern in another department. Worked really hard (seriously most dedicated intern ever) and got full time employment offer post school.

Bad:

Senior manager Forced Me to hire his daughter who was way under qualified. She came in late, left early, never finished her assignments, work quality was really poor. Took forever to fire her. The relationship with Sr Manager is extremely strained

I got admitted to a prestigious university because my uncle is a famous alumnus and major donor. I chose an in-state party school instead.

Why, are your relatives in the process of arranging a board chairmanship for you and you are wondering whether everyone in the organization be ecstatic about?
