What's the craziest thing you've seen offered for free in your Buy Nothing group?

I once saw sealed condoms offered. The lady who posted them also posted a picture of her pregnant belly and said something like "the condoms are going to expire before we need them again so I don't want them to go to waste" and the comments in the post were hilarious!

I tried to give away a Stanley tumbler at the height of their popularity (received it as a gift and knew I would never use it because it was big and cumbersome) and it was half people clamoring for it and half people accusing me of "too good to be true" scamming.

Lol when i lived in glover park i would walk around all the nice row houses and marvel at the absolute garbage people would put out with a “free to good home” sign. Ii’m talking a rusty tea kettle with half a plastic handle melted off. A stained and ripped npr tote bag. A half chewed (dog?) world directory of orthodonists from 1988. A weathered stroller that could only be described as a “vintage rust bucket”. And on and on. I could not believe how much people in million dolla rowhouses thought their junk was worth that they kept curbing it for the worthy poors.

This still happens on Capitol Hill and some people even try to sell their old, worn out junk.

I’m in Alexandria. One morning someone posted a gift of a huge bag of carrots that they had seen fall out of a food delivery truck onto the side of the road (Braddock, truck was assumed to have delivered to Lena’s). So it was some huge restaurant delivery size. This person picked up the bag off of Braddock, took it home and posted it on BN.

It was so bizarre.

The Alexandria West/Lincolnia group is wild! A few members just keep passing the items back and forth to each other like it's their job.

I know my "#MomBoss" friend always snags any half/partially used makeup, perfume, lotions, etc. and resells them online. That's all she focuses on and makes good side money hustle. People started to catch on that she was a reseller so she asked some of us to claim things when we saw them come up. Hard pass from me.

A few years back, a neighbor offered a half-eaten ham. Open/partially eaten food should not be given away due to health concerns. Food pantries would never accept open/half-eaten products.
