NP, it’s better than being obnoxious and too dumb to realize it. |
Then suggest to the HoS that he call one of the many illustrious alums. Or offer to do it yourself rather than badmouthing a sort of famous person doing a kindness at your kid’s school. |
I agree with OP. Way to make the occasion all about her. It would have been a lot classier to decline the invitation. |
+1 Chief justice John Roberts did it for both of his kids. https://www.davidprince.com/2024/06/06/i-wish-you-bad-luck-what-parents-can-learn-from-a-supreme-court-justices-commencement-speech/ https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2018/06/07/beware-robots-chief-justice-john-roberts-commencement-warning/681626002/ |
Sounds like it’s a common tradition at the school and they likely asked her. She’s likely doing it as a favor, not to draw attention. Sheesh, some of you! |
+1. It’s so tacky to badmouth a fellow parent for volunteer work. |
| Sorry you aren’t interesting enough to get invited to speak, OP. I guess complainers and whiners don’t make the best commencement speakers anyway. |
Nice try, but no. This thread and all the wonderful folks in it are pure private. |
| I’m sure Seinfeld didn’t overshadow his daughter at Duke’s commencement. |
Lol, I graduated with a Gore daughter and Tipper Gore was our speaker. Is your child a graduating senior at NCS? If so, does the speaker selection bother her? If no to either of these questions, why do you care? |
Presumably OP is tacky enough to want someone “better” as commencement speaker since she chose to shell out 50k a year for NCS even though her kid could have gotten a better education for free if she were smart enough to get into a public school magnet program. |
