There is a correlation between getting molars and growing. My son is 14 and doesn’t have his 12 year molars yet. He’s a late grower/bloomer. He probably won’t hit his growth spurt until 15. |
Just curious… what size feet? My son is 14 and barely fits in size 7. I’m hoping this means he hasn’t started his growth spurt. |
Yes. My younger kid had to have a molar removed it never came through and got infected under the gum line and they had to cut the gums surgically for the others to emerge. When he was 14 he had an X-ray for an ankle injury (he was only 5’3-5’4”) and they said he had a ton of growing left to do. He’s 17 and started growing last summer. He’s about 5’9” now, but is at least 2 years behind, His older brother kept growing until 20. Left for college at 5’10” and by end of Freshmen year of college he was 6 feet. |

My nephew looked like a middle schooler at the start of junior year (when he had just turned 16) - maybe 5’5?. He’s a senior now (17.5) and shot up in the past year. I think he’s 5’11” now. Based on parents height I think he’ll be well over 6 feet.
Big contrast to my same age son who was 5’11” by 15 but hadn’t grown at all since. |
| I could have written this exact post two years ago (or may have?) when DS was 15. Barely showed any growth between 13 and 15, one of the smallest kids in his freshman class. DS is now 6'1" and has to buy extra long pants. And still growing according to pediatrician. |
+1 Almost the exact same and I’m sure I’ve commented on other posts etc. My DS grew maybe 3 inches total from 13-15. Weighed around 100lbs on his 15th birthday. From 15-17 he grew 8-9 inches. At 17.5 he is 6’1” and about 145lbs (I assume he has some filling out to do, yet). I think he is about done growing in height but who knows (has gained an inch or so in the last 6 months). Our other son hit puberty at a “normal” time and was done growing by age 16 (is 5’10”). They all grow on a different timeline. Some just grow later. |
Why would you be concerned about foot size without height? Our sons feet grew a ton before they had their actual growth spurts. I thought that was the norm. |
Yes I would think it’s a good thing that he has a 10.5 foot. My son is right around 5’ 3” at almost 14 and he wears a size 7! |
| Guys I went to school with grew in college |
| My son was monitored for a long time. We all thought it was delayed puberty that would just pass with patience. But then he failed the Stim test. After diagnosed with GHD we’re on track now. The Stim test is awful but if you’re concerned, take it. |
Do you want feet to grow early or late to maximize growth? |

This is OP. Kid is now 16.5 and above 5’11”. He still looked like a little kid until 16, then started to grow and his voice broke in the past few months. He’s now much taller than many friends who had towered over him. Clearly still growing and still going through puberty. No sign of even the tiniest bit of facial hair yet, for example.
Pediatrician thinks he’ll be at least 6 2 which tracks parental height. Younger brother is looking like he’ll have the same trajectory. |
This is an old post. I think the point might be is that half the boys are short going into high school and some girls tower over them for a short while. . The response was obvious to me. Update - did your son grow to be a typical teen? |
| My experience: my son tested positive for growth hormone deficiency when he was 14. He’s finally experiencing puberty at almost 16. Just stay on top of it. I wish that I had recognized the issue a bit sooner. |
This doesn’t make much sense. He started puberty at almost 14 and grew until he was 19! He must be really tall. Or a really slow grower. Or both, I supppse? |
