If you drive an $80k+ car, what is your age and HHI?

I live in a condo that is one of my parent's investment property, so you can say that I stay with my parents.

I still got my 35K car that I got in high school from my dad, and now he presented me an 80K car.

I hope your husband is cool with his wife still getting stuff from “daddy”.

Make sure when your 50, you you elderly dad to buy you a Rolls….

NP but what? This doesn’t even make sense.

I’m a man. If my wife’s father gives her a present, why is that supposed to bother me? Why is “daddy” in quotes?

You’re either a jealous slag or some kind of weirdo.

Sorry but a 27 year old living in parents apartment, who got a 35k car when she was 17 and now a 80k car as a 27 year old “present”, seems a little bit odd. You seem like a spoiled brat and you should be working your own way through and depending on daddy for this. I would be embarrassed I’m getting an 80k car from my parents at 27. Good luck to your future spouse, you sound like a real treat.

There is nothing wrong with this. It sounds like she has a good job and doesn’t need to be dependent on her parents. Sounds like her parents are loaded and are spreading the wealth, which is what I would do in that situation. You can’t take it with you. She’s probably saving a whole bunch of money and will have long term financial stability. No man I know would have any problem marrying someone in her situation.

Seriously -- it isn't like she's living with them in their basement.

Can we stop with the stupid argument: I’m not spending money on depreciating assets?

A car is just like the furniture, the clothes, the gadgets, the tools, the food you buy, etc. They all depreciate. We consume them. Does that mean you want to buy shitty food, clothes or furniture because they are depreciating assets? If you do, I feel sorry for you.

Even your house (the building) depreciates as it ages over time. It’s the land and location that appreciates.

Most of the things we buy to consume depreciate, but we love to buy the best quality we can afford.

I like fast, well-built cars. It’s my thing. It makes me happy.

Do you all complain about all the ice cream flavors and brands at the grocery store too?

This thread is ridiculous.
Any large SUV is now 80-100k.

My parents have one. They earn maybe 80k/year. They have always overspent on cars, however. The 80k one was a compromise because they can’t get interest free financing anymore.

If I had to wait until I'm making 500k to enjoy owning this car, I would be dead long before it happens.

This makes no sense. How can afford payments?

Easy. I'm leasing the car and the lease is $1000 per month. I can afford the payments because I have lower housing expenses.
My rent is $1200 for a 1bd apartment. I could have rented an apartment in a more upscale building for $2200 like others and driven a Honda Civic. I prefer to pay a cheap rent and drive a Porsche Cayenne.

That.Is.Dumb.

It’s not any dumber than paying $2,200 for an apartment… or renting ANY apartment at all. Renting is even dumber.

No, buying a house you can’t afford is even dumber.

You guys are crazy. Almost every decent new car is now 40k+. You can get the car.

The PP is good earner but seriously, he is mentally ill.

That was me (I'm a woman, we also earn money )

Why am I ill? Because I don't want to spend money on a depreciating asset? It gets me from point a to b exactly the same was as my Jeep does. Do I want to spend 60k for essentially no reason? I didn't get to this income by making foolish choices.

Never mind the money and income. Who the heck drives a Jeep? And why even work and talk about income when the price of your Jeep would have provided you your income if invested properly.

+1

You would think with the ability to earn $1M annually the PP would understand that buying any FCA vehicle (much less two of them) is a foolish choice.

But why the cayenne?

BLAH BLAH BLAH POINT A TO POINT B. You stupid braindead morons if I hear this ONE MORE time I'm going to explode. Let's try it with other stuff too. Durrrrr a car is just for getting you from point A to point B. I love my toyota corolla crapbox. Durrrr food is just for calories and then pooped out. I love my McDonalds crapburger. Durrrr a house is just for a roof protecting you from the elements. I love my doublewide trailer. Durrrrr clothes are just for covering your private parts. I love my 40 year old Kmart t-shirts. Maybe we don't all want to live a crappy, boring life devoid of material pleasures. If that's how you want to live then go ahead but imagine, *GASP*, if people could have DIFFERENT PREFERENCES? Could that even be POSSIBLE?

Hahahaa love this! Amen
