Looking for a nanny agency that provides care for special needs children

Anonymous
My DS is 6 years old and is nonverbal with sensory issues. In the last we've hired au pairs, private nannies, and went to daycare. At this point, nothing seems to work for a more long-term childcare needs. Does anyone recommend a nanny agency that specializes in special needs childcare services? Thanks!

I would call White House Nannies to ask. I am not sure if they specialize in this, but they always provide great nannies so I think they do their job well and may have some ideas for you.

White House nannies were super expensive and not too helpful. We found our SN provider on care.com. Click on "Special Needs Providers" option. We had a lot of responses.

I also found nannies willing to care for my special needs son on care.com. ended up using a different site, but I think any website would work. I would just state up front that your child has special needs (speech and sensory) and then go into more details over the phone and more at an in-person interview. In the beginning I was so scared to scare people away but be fair that the same time. Once they meet my son they usually realize with some extra (and lots of information provided by us) it can be a rewarding experience. I also allow them ability to talk with therapists and some nannies find this very interesting.

If your son is 6, do you need help mainly after school and on the weekends? My son is now verbal but when he was non-verbal we had success by finding graduate students to help us. I'm not sure where you are located but John Hopkins has a program in Rockville and you might want to reach out to them.

Yes, we're actually in Rockville! Thank you, for this info I had no idea about this program. I'm going to look into it now. Thanks again!
