need a car seat in a taxi JUST to the airport/back?

I am flying to/from Dulles (i live in Reston, and it's a 12 minute drive) for an upcoming trip. I don't need a carseat because my family on the other side (the "pickup") will have one during our stay. Do we need to bring one JUST for the taxi ride? Do taxi companies have some to install for this purpose? Can you recommend a N.VA taxi company that does this?

You do not need to use a car seat in a taxi. I never do. I too live very close to an aiport and have access at the other end. I have taken many cab rides to the airport without one.

If you call ahead for a taxi (usually the day before or at least with a couple of hours of notice), some taxi cabs can provide a carseat. Red Top in Arlington is one I've used before. But, I haven't figured out a good solution for the return trip, since you just have to take the Washington Flyer cab from the queue. If anyone has ever been able to call ahead for a cab at the Dulles airport, I'd love to get some phone numbers or cab info. Thanks.

I used to travel a lot for business. I found a cab driver that lived close to my house that I liked. He would take me to the airports on Monday mornings and then pick me up on Friday afternoons. He worked for Red Top Cab and I would call his cell number to arrange my pickups. So yes other cab drivers can pick up at the airport, but you need to arrange it before hand.

In VA, taxis are exempt from the car seat laws. I don't use one when going to the airport.

Do you need a car seat for a 12-minute drive? Only if there's a chance you'll have an accident during those particular 12 minutes.
