We just bought a house with 2 zones for the AC. This is new to us but I just assumed before we moved in it was for heating and AC. The thermostat upstairs though only has the option for "cool" or "off". No heat. This seems odd to me that the second zone is only for AC and not heat. Is this even possible? My parents just had a second zone put in and it's for both heat and AC. They didn't even know it was possible to do just AC. Is there something weird about our thermostat or is our second zone just AC and we only have 1 zone for heat? |
heat rises--maybe your furnace s sized for the whole house? (not sure how ducts would work, though.) |
Sounds like they cheaped out, maybe there is a dampener? My friend has this setup in his ashburn tract New build |
We have separate thermostats for heat and AC-- 2 zones for AC and 3 zones for heat. What kind of heat do you have? |
This. Or maybe you have radiant heat in the floor? |
We have this. One zone (and dedicated thermostat) for heat in the original part of our 1930s house (radiator heat) two zones for our central AC added 10 years ago. And another zone for heat in our addition even though it is linked to the old radiator/furnace system. |
It's possible that it doesn't have a heat pump. Heat does rise. |
