Special Needs thread

Anonymous
Jeff,

Can you please take a look at this thread?

You and the participants usually take a great deal of care to keep that forum nicer than typical dcum.

However, in this thread a non special needs parent came on to ask for some advice and the people there started piling on to her, calling her names, belittling her for not knowing the correct lingo to use, twisting around her words to start a fight.

A few posters tried to genuinely answer her question and provide guidance to OP and they jumped on them too.

Her first post might have been inartful in its wording, but it was not mean spirited, just awkward.

This type of thing has happened before over there. It scares people off from asking questions where they want to learn how to include children with disabilities because they are afraid of getting jumped on for using dated or incorrect terminology.

Thanks!

Okay, I cleaned that thread up. I'm partly to blame because I moved that thread from General Parenting without really looking at it too deeply. I didn't realize how much the OP had been abused by the GP folks.
