| in math, science, and english this year? |
| We have had exactly 5 days of school and BTS is only on Thursday. Are you really expecting answers? |
|
I don't know what the class is doing, but my special snowflake is hammering through some quadratic equations right now burning some midnight oil. Then I thought we'd read a little Canterbury Tales before he pops off to bed. Just a day in the life.
Honestly, though, most of last week was just getting used to the school and schedules again. I'm guessing they'll be learning more reading and reading strategies and adding two digit numbers together instead of ones. Science is a mystery. |
Ha! Seriously, wtf? The first few weeks are assessments and refresher of last year's material. They need to gauge where kids are so they can adjust lesson plans and groups accordingly. |
+1. DC is in K, not 1st, but teacher has told us they really won't get into academics for another week or so. First few weeks are about laying the groundwork in the classroom, assessing abilities, and so on. BTSN is Thursday so my guess is you'll learn a lot more then. |
| When my kids were in 1st in APS they did responsive classroom and spent a loooong time in the beginning working through classroom expectations, building relationships, etc. They still learned a ton that year so no worries. |
| Not sure yet. We haven't had much homework yet. The teacher sent home notes that said she'd mostly be assessing their levels the first couple of weeks. I imagine she'll tell us more on Thursday at BTS night. |
| I'm not in your area, but our curriculum is posted online. Maybe yours is too. |

Is this the right one?

My DC just started K at a FCPS school that uses responsive classroom. It sounds good, what I've heard of it. What did you and your DCs think of it? Did it help with social/emotional maturity, or just classroom behavior? |
| A.www. I screen shot the curriculum at btsn. but there's no pic upload here. |
Yes my kids class did rules. They were still "coming up" with their class mission statements. |
