Trying to figure out how much during a full day is normal. |
| We received the daily schedule and recess is listed twice, at 20 minutes each. Ask the teacher for the info; likewise if you go to the Back to School night, you'll get the schedule. It's kind of a black hole, information wise, until the Back to School night. |
| It depends on the school. Call your school. |
| Our FCPS K student gets two 20 minute recess periods daily plus PE three times per week - I am pleasantly surprised. |

Last year our child got one 20 min recess and another 20 min "free choice" I guess they class/teacher decided together whether to go outside or do a free choice of indoor activities/play time. PE was twice a week for them in our school I forget the duration of the PE class though.
I believe the MINIMUM recess period in FCPS is 20min/day for elementary aged children. It is up to school to decide if they can do more. |
| Not enough in my opinion, but if you get a good teacher, they will make an effort to add some activity and movement during teaching time. An example is having the kids get up and do little dances to alphabet songs or just little games where they get up and move around during a lesson. |
| Our schedule has one 20-minute recess. Yesterday my DS told me they had an extra recess, and I'm hoping that continues to happen some days. Gym is 2x/week for 30 min, and I have been told they occasionally go outside for that. |

20 minutes of recess everyday plus 30 minutes of PE x 3 times a week.
Real answer: NOT enough! |
