Ugh....time to wake my 8th grader up

Anonymous
I hate the new school times. I had been trying to get her on a school schedule, but failed. Now, I am going into to the lions den (or Guinea Pig Den, as the case may be)!

Wish me luck!

Right there with you. Our busses come two hours apart for MS and ES. This stinks.

And you wouldn't make a stink with a 90 minute difference? Really?

It is just 30 minutes. Plus, it is only 2 years instead of the four when they are on HS.

My 8 year olds bus comes at 6:50 and it's an hour one way. I feel your pain. So hard to get him to eat anything so early too .

Agreed. Depending on how old your kids are any bus schedule can be inconvenient. When my youngest was in elementary, second child in middle school and 3rd in high school, a few years back, we had to catch buses at 6:30, 7:15 and 8:50. It made for extremely long mornings. I know the changes are inconvenient for some, but middle school is only blip. I can't tell you how different it was having two leaving for high school today at 7:30, vs. getting up at 5:30 to make a 6:30 bus.

Some high schoolers liked the earlier schedule. Zero middle schoolers want such an early schedule. It's not healthy for them, as the AAP recommendations clearly stated.

My DD will be sleep deprived for the entire school year. You can not make a MS student go to bed at 9:00. Just won't happen.

Didn't hear the parents of Robinson, Lake Braddock or Hayfield MS'ers complaining for the last 30 years of first days. Suck it up and deal.

There have always been complaints from both students and parents about ridiculously early start times. I went to LBSS with early start times and there was a push to move the times even back then. The teachers had it the worst and they complained too. It's not healthy for kids, it wasn't working for secondary/high schoolers at that hour so after many years of work, they changed it. So how long will we have to wait before they change ALL schools to a reasonable start time?

But telling people to suck it up is lovely.

We are Frost/Woodson, but Frost also was very early start because they shared busses with Woodson. This year the bus for Frost comes 25 minutes LATER than it did last year, despite the school starting only 5 minutes later than last year (7:30 start vs. 7:25 start). My 8th grader and I practically wept with relief!

I certainly heard complaints.

Actually, my issue was bumping ES back another 20 minutes.

Were there really drastic changes in middle school start times? My DS started HS this year, but I just checked and his MS's start time changed from 7:40 to 7:30. Both times are probably too early, but it shouldn't seem like a big change compared to last year.

Actually his bus for HS is only 5 or 10 minutes later than his MS bus was last year. I don't know how long they think it takes to travel 3 miles to the school, but they seem to be allowing 45 minutes after the last stop!
