We are having a gathering of 25+ people at our place. I'm anticipating that we will have many of these in the future. Should I buy some Corelle or other unbreakable plates or just rent some? I won't have enough of my everyday for people.
Is the Corelle too tacky? |
Is this a sit-down function? If not, good quality paper or plastic is fine. If it is, I'd rent some when you're renting the extra tables and chairs. |
I purchased good quality Corelli for casual and BBQ gatherings. I couldn't take the waste that occurred with all the plastic otherwise.
For nicer dinners I would rent if you don't own. We always use our daily and china for larger dinners. |
I never thought of Corelle as tacky. I thought it was nice. Not fancy, but nice. |
A plain white Corelle would be nice. I actually have a set of small plates for the kids. I could easily see using a full set of them for a party. |
It's fine. |
We got a set of plain white Corelle for the kids and I really like them, much to my surprise. However, they are expensive if you don't get them on sale/clearance. |
Go to the thrift stores and buy up sets of clear glass plates. They look nice, and in my experience do not have to match in design since they are all clear glass. |
Another vote for the plain Corelle white. We love Corelle because they are light and easy to stack. Not tacky at all. |
If you do anticipate many such gatherings in the future, try buying plates on eBay or at Homegoods. |
Not tacky but it's actually not that inexpensive--I'd go to Ikea. |
