Chemical pregnancy...now what?

Anonymous
I got a BFP last week and my OB had me come in for blood work. My numbers were low so I had a repeat done at the end of the week. Well, last night, I stopped feeling pregnant so I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I started bleeding soon after. This is new territory for me (DC #1 was easy to conceive and a healthy pregnancy), so, what happens now? There's no need to call my OB over the weekend, right? Will they make me come back for another blood draw or leave things as is since my body seems to be functioning as it should under the circumstances (bleeding, one or two small clots but no real cramping, feels like my period)? And finally, for those who have experienced this, when did your cycle go back to normal/when were you able to conceive again? Thanks in advance for the replies.

Hey, I had a chemical in between dcs 1 and 2 as well. Never got my period back because I conceived on the very next cycle. Hope it's as easy for you. Sorry for the loss!

Same here.

I'm so sorry for the loss.

Exact same for me too. When guessing when to try again, count the bleeding as day 1 of your period.

So sorry and good luck!

OP here...Thanks so much for the replies, really makes me feel better and restores some hope.

For some reason the chemicals (I've had a few now) made my next cycle come a day or two later. Don't despair about it though. Chemicals are quite common and many people don't even realize they had one - you did because you have been TTC.

Hi OP, sorry for your loss. The exact same thing just happened to me last week. Because I was previously in (unsuccessful) fertility treatment, I talked to my current RE about this, and he said that this is not uncommon, the reason for me was most likely a genetically abnormal embryo (I am 41). The period flow can be different from a typical one, but it's still a period. Your fertility for the next period is not affected by this.

Same thing here. Come to think of it, it happened with both my successful pregnancies -- a chemical the cycle immediately before each one.

I'm sorry for your loss, OP. I would call your OB just to rule out an ectopic pregnancy or other issues.

For me, my charts post-CPs (I've had two) look exactly the same as any other cycle. I agree with 13:06 - count the first day of bleeding as the first day of your cycle and go from there. Good luck!

Really sorry, OP. Your next period may be a little late. That is no medical concern, just your body taking a rest. TTC whenever you feel up to it.

As for the appointment, whatever your doctor says.

I've had two chemical pregnancies, and my period bounced back the next month both times. My ob-gyn didn't even have me come in to be checked, which I thought was odd, but I guess it is just that common. Emotionally it can be rough (certainly was for me) - take care of yourself!

It sucks. Went on to get pregnant the next month I tried. I thought of it as my body preparing itself.
