Tell me about ceramic cooktops

I know everyone prefers gas, but it's not an option in our home. What do I need to know about ceramic cooktops? How can I keep one free of scratches and stains? What cook ware do you use? (I've read various opinions on hard adonized cookware on ceramic cooktops)

They aren't as delicate as you think. I use all kinds of cookware on mine, cook everyday, use a ceramic cleaner weekly. Going on 7 years, not one scratch, looks brand new. Easy to wipe up spills.

Electric heat is not like gas, it is unforgiving. That being said, there is a learning or burned curve until you get used to it.

I have had a ceramic cooktop for over 10 years ( at different apartments and now a house) and it really does not scratch easily. I have a ceramic induction cook top now, and that does require special pots and pans, but your plain jane electric cooktop does not.

As long as you aren't a klutz it should be fine. My friend's husband must have dropped something on theirs (he never admitted to it) so it is now cracked. It still functions well.
