recommendations for storage bed

Does anyone have a recommendation? Our style is in between very modern and traditional (on a scale of Design Within Reach--Room and Board--Pottery Barn), we are more Room and Board, though we could also like very simple traditional styles, like Shaker or Mission/Craftsman.

I have looked online at the Room and Board beds but am worried about the reports that there are big gaps between mattresses and frames.
