| or at least most of it. I am sick of my clothes. Don't do it, right? |
|
Well, not unless you want to wear a barrel!
Can you pare down to a few classics, and maybe establish a budget for buying a few more? You could also do some thrift shops/goodwill and pick up a few other great things for very little. |
OP here. LOL! A barrel might be preferable, the way I feel right now! Yes, that's good advice. I'm tired of wearing things that I don't feel comfortable and stylish in. Know what I mean? |
| Can you have a swap party? Get together with about 10 friends about bring at least 10 outfits you are dying to get rid of... |
| OP, I am so right there with you. Even though I have updated my wardrobe some in the past few years, I feel like just about everything in my closet is tired and sad looking. I need about 3 new long sleeve tees and 5 new short sleeve tees, some new cotton and winter sweaters, new shorts, new dresses, new work pants, etc. I am going to start by just going through and weeding out what I absolutely shouldn't be wearing in public, then see what I can do to add to what I have left. |

I was feeling the same way 2 weeks ago and here is what I did (I feel much better).
1. Pull everything out of your closet / drawers / storage. 2. Remove anything that you will not wear again - is too big / small / worn out / stained / out of style. 3. Pack the fall winter things away - you can deal with those later 4. Start with your bottoms and for each pair (shorts, pants, skirt) find 2 or 3 tops that you will wear with them. 5. If you are brave - do you have a friend that can come over and help go through things - possibly will see things that would go together that you wouldn't? 6. Make a shopping list of things that you need. I found this worked well as I didn't have to try and remeber what I had / did not have and wind up with another pair of the same color kahki shorts. Good luck! |
| OP here. 10:02, I'm going to do exactly what you did. Thanks! |
|
10:02 - you are welcome.
fyi - this helped a bunch as I was able to see what I had - so for Easter instead of going out and buying a new dress (which is what I was planning on doing), I went and got a new sweater to go over a dress I had purchased last year. Now I have a cute sweater (J. Crew with a flower applique) that I can wear with other things as opposed to a new Easter Dress that may or may not have been worn again. Another tip - I recently went through all of my jewlery and took it out of all of the misc small boxes I had. I purchased a large jewlery box from Container Store so I can see everything. Less is so much more. |
| This inspired me. I just went out to Ann Taylor and started stocking up on staples - $30 cashmere sweaters (bought two), $20 long sleeve tees (two), $30 top for work and a $150 dress for summer marked down to $60. Now I need to clean out my closet this weekend, and start looking for short sleeve tees/tops. |
Would you be able to post a link to the Container Store jewelry box that you got? I really want to do this, but am having a hard time finding the best box to do it with--if you'd be willing to share, it could really help in my thinking. Thanks! |
Not to hijack this thread but I could have written the OP myself. Is there a shopping service out there to help one compile a decent wardrobe? Kinda like the show "what not to wear". I am clueless on what to buy and could really use some help. |
| Some Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor and Macy's stores have personal shoppers. Their services are free, you just buy the clothes. |
