Do you decide birthday party themes or do your children?

Looking thru Pinterest and wondering if the parents come up with the themes.

My kid is six. I picked the first two years of themes. We didn't have a party for the 3rd. Age 4,5,6 she's picked.

Well, duh, it's Pinterest. It's moms who have too much time on their hands.

My kids, but I have veto power for purely logistical reasons and I also offer suggestions if they seem to want ideas.

But we keep things fairly simple, so none of our parties would be Pinterest-worthy.

My kid always has. I take her to Target, and she picks the colors she likes.

I picked for 1st birthday. Every year from 2-5 she has picked. Usually she just says something like "Minnie!" And I take it from there.

We never really did themes. Just bright colors and happy birthday signs.

They pick based off my "suggestions". I love throwing kid parties so I have some really cool ideas to present to them so they usually pick the one I want to do. I don't have time for Pinetrest so I just do what I enjoy.

Fortunately, I have all boys and cool boy things don't change as frequently as cool boy things.

For example, this year we are going to have our third Minecraft bday party. Next year will likely be our third Lego party since it works really well for third graders. Last year was our third Star Wars party. I have those themes down pat now so it is easy to throw a great party with not too much effort. We have also done nerf themed parties, water fight parties, bug/gross out parties and TV character themed parties

I doubt I could recycle as much if I had three girls, since there always seems to be a new princess or favorite TV character for girls.

I suggest. He is always happy with whatever I suggest. I guess I'm lucky.

I picked the first couple of years after that they picked. We never did anything elaborate or majorly theme oriented. Pinatas, plates, napkins, goody bags that sort of thing were all related to the theme. But no elaborate theme oriented games. Just simple stuff.

Picking birthday themes is one of the few opportunities my kids have of decorating the whole house with their favorite thing, so within reason, I let them choose.

We go all out and I make a 3D cake, paint/make decor, have activities around the theme, etc. We've had knights (with fencing "lessons", hand-made costumes and castle cake), dinosaurs, piggies, worms, etc.

Love the knights idea. I might steal it sometime. Bravo mom

I choose it and they always like my choices. That said I choose based on their interests. For example DD loves puppies DS loves fire trucks so their last birthday was firefighters and Dalmatians themed.

DD is turning 5 next month and up to now, she always needed help picking. But this year, she was adamant. Frozen party. Elsa cake.

So that's what we're doing.
