Sesame Street Park

Hi - has anyone been to this park and have any feedback? I would like to take my 2 year old and newborn (obviously the newborn wont participate in anything) but wanted to know if it was age appropriate for 2 and a nice park in general.

Are you talking about Sesame Place in Pennsylvania?

I think 2-3 yrs old is the perfect time for Sesame Place. That's when their love affair with Elmo is the greatest. There are lots of things for little ones to do. The only tricky thing is figuring out what to do about a nap. My 3yr old was so excited to be there, that there was no going down for a nap.

My just-2 yo didn't go on that many rides and was a bit scared of Elmo, even though he loved SS. He had a good time overall but was shy of the characters, but my 4 year old had a great time - she went on every ride and loved everything about it. I'd like to take them again now that he is almost 3 I think he'll be more into it. We stayed at a Residence Inn nearby that had an indoor pool and they loved that. We had a great day at the park overall.

For those of you that have been, how much is the park a water park? My older child- who is almost 5- is not swimming yet and not as into water stuff as many other kids are at this age.

If you do a search on "Sesame Place" a lot of info. should come up in the archives.

We went to the park last summer and overall had a good experience. We got there when it opened (to avoid lines) and heat, which was helpful.

We also brought our own food into the park. The park food is not good and very expensive, so it was helpful to just bring our own in an insulated bag. A lot of people bring coolers and go back out to their car to eat.

I would say about half of it is a water park. There are a decent amount of "splash areas" where kids can walk and splash around without being able to swim.

I forget what we paid to get in, but definitely look for discount tickets. We got ours through the Montgomery County Park system. There are also deals where you get two days for the price of one, but you will pay a little more for this.

We did not do a character breakfast as there were plenty of characters around, but I have heard these are good.

we took my 4 yr old last summer and he loved it! we actually spent two days in a row there. Did the character lunch which was awesome because it provided a break during the day to sit in the A/C. There are discounted coupons for that on the internet as well.

agree with PP's comments, and will add that we stayed at the Sheraton across the street. The nightly rate is higher than other local hotels, but includes a free shuttle so no time lost with parking, etc. Also, easy to go back to the hotel for a nap or shower if you want to return in the late afternoon. We did wet attractions in the morning, had lunch and rest time at the hotel, and took the shuttle back for dry rides in the afternoon. I agree peak ages are 2-4. My kids are both older than that now, but speak fondly of their first rollercoaster ride, etc.

Hated the park. I found it dirty and classless. Elmo looked like he needed a good bath. My boys were 2 when we went and they were too young. My oldest was 4 which was more age appropriate. I would never go back. Disney is a class act this park is not.

PP here: We did not have a great experience at the Sheraton across the street from the park. I suggest you check out tripadvisor before deciding to stay there.

I went there when I was growing up with my family, we probably ranged from ages 3-10. As for swimming, I don't remember any deep pools, there were just ankle deep play yards with jungle gyms. There was a water slide for the older kids. There were plenty of non water things to do too. We loved it.

I have been to Sesame Place a few times, and your two year old would enjoy it. Just FYI, it is operated by Busch Gardens, which this year is opening a Sesame Street portion of its park in Williamsburg. This might be a good alternative -- they have a fun animal show, non-Sesame rides and there's much more available for the adults.

Thank you, thank you for the info about Busch Gardens. You just made my day because we had been talking about going to Sesame Place this summer. Williamsburg is much closer and will make for an easier two-day trip.
