No. The pleather skirt and heels are not appropriate and I have done plenty of stints defending Usha Vance. She’s not an idiot. She understood serious apparel interviewing for firms and going to events when Chua and the other mofos were helping launch her turd of a husband.

Appropriate dress is in fact a serious part of the VP and spouse job. They do attend so many funerals and make so many appearances with the stated goal of acknowledging tragedy and offering support. It’s an a—-ole move to just fling on anything, especially when it’s not just some cheap drab mourning drag from JC Penney.
There is intent there and it’s hard to not read it as an eff-you from her to people that don’t deserve that callousness.

So, a couple things.

Regarding the part of your post I bolded: That's what's crazy. No idea where the black caplet dress she wore when JD escorted Erika Kirk back to DC was from. But the pleather number to Minnesota was NOT cheap crap from Penney's. It was Shoshanna!

Now, I went to go look on the Shoshanna website to get the exact cost but it looks past season. There's a similar version in navy retailing for about $500. In googling "Usha Vance Shoshanna dress" I found this article:

https://wwd.com/fashion-news/fashion-scoops/usha-vance-stylist-kennedy-center-shoshanna-new-york-1237915979/

...Usha HAS a stylist which is truly the most "WTF" thing I have read in a long time.

Also, I obviously didn't watch Lady Frumpy's interview with Meghan McCain but this is a good one:

Whenever she needs to pick out an outfit she texts two childhood friends and a neighbor. Jesus Christ.

My previous post on this topic eventually got deleted in the cleanup from the deranged "Usha is bad because Trump is racist" poster, but hopefully we can keep this one fashion-focused.

I agree with PP that Usha is not stupid. And given her background and pedigree, she is well-versed in social protocol enough to know that SLOTUS should run a comb through her hair before public appearances. But I think there's an alternative explanation to thinking that everything she does style-wise is a giant FU to the American people. She is a victim of really awful racist attacks. Whatever else you might think about her, she's a mom and a person. That's hard and scary when you have 3 young kids.

She might honestly have some social anxiety about public appearances, so she might be more focused on pysching herself up to attend than on getting her styling right. If she does indeed have a stylist, that seems even more likely. Maybe that means she shouldn't be SLOTUS, but not every outfit is necessarily a coded message. And she seems by far the least likely person in Trump world to be using her fashion to speak in code.

Just looking at this I feel like there's a huge weight dragging her torso down.

Wow, that's gorgeous. Love the neckline.

It’s honestly hard to see her like this. Not really, because I don’t like her and I think she has absolutely no business in government. But still. What a bad call they made.

Huh? No one had to "call Page Six". Jay-Z and Beyonce were also there.

I liked both the black dress she wore in Minnesota and the one she wore on the plane with Erika Kirk.

I liked the plane dress, not the Minnesota one. I don't think the shiny pleather was appropriate. I also kind of hate visible elastic gathering at waistlines. I think it looks cheap.

Neither the leather nor the elastic waist bothered me at all. Glad she wears what she likes.

During her interview with Meghan McCain, Usha Vance revealed her method for choosing outfits and it's something many of us have done. When asked if she works with a stylist, she replied, "I have this text thread of friends that I work with. One of them works in the fashion industry and she loves picking out outfits and suggesting ideas and she's been a really great help." That's presumably Isabella Nardone, who has been called out as Usha's stylist, though she doesn't appear to be one in an official capacity beyond directing Usha toward stylish outfit options to wear. The other people on the thread are a neighbor and a childhood friend. Usha also shared that she took photos of everything in her closet and uploaded them into an app that helps create outfits.

She needs to fire these friends.

Whoa, I missed the app part. I wonder what app it is...it's like the AI in it is trolling her

Oh gosh, I missed that too, she needs to fire the app. 😂. I think we’ve found another use case where AI doesn’t work, you guys. 😂

Usha’s pleather dress was a misstep but beyond that I think some of you are being too hard on her. She’s obviously not into fashion. Her look - natural hair with greys, little to no makeup, basic wardrobe - is disappointing from a fashion perspective but it’s not a character flaw.

We had Jill Biden with her fishnet hose and knee high boots.
We had Michelle Obama looking like a school marm in J. Crew.
We had Barbara Bush with her white hair looking 80 years old when she was 40.

We can handle Usha!

I wish other women would quit shitting on women who don’t dye their hair. It’s not uncommon for greying hair to take dye very badly. And the ageism is fd up.

Michelle looked fine. Jill largely looked fine. Usha was going to a goddamned school shooting memorial, so slow your roll.
