Neuropsychology testing recommendation

Does anyone have a rec? Want my kid tested for adhd and also want someone experienced with distinguishing between gifted, adhd, or both. Thx.

For gifted, you don't need a full neuropsych just an IQ test, WISC-V. Should be less than 500 vs a neuropsych which will run at least 3000 and up.

If OP is wondering about ADHD, you probably would be better off with a full neuropsych evaluation. Also, some kids with ADHD have a harder time taking things like IQ tests and do better with an experienced tester.

OP, search the SN forum for a rec and put in where you live (or search the forum).

Dr. Hammond of Stixrud Group in Silver Spring. Your child may be gifted and adhd. Good luck!

I would ask on the special needs board.

Stixrud in MD, Mindwell in VA. Children's and other places do them in-network but it's a rotating cast of fellows learning. If you are really going after some fine-edge stuff use the better practices.

Actually, you'll get a lot of the same recs on the SN board. I'd also add the Lab School.

We used Dr. Kanakos at Children First in Vienna - very happy with her. It was around $2,500, but we didn't test for anxiety and/or social interaction.

Dr Dana O'Brien. Smart, compassionate, and takes insurance. We love her.

NP. These evaluations require detailed questionnaires from teachers, right? How does this work in middle schools when the teachers don't know the kids that well?

To 07:35: I had to ask both middle school and HS teachers for these evaluations, and was stunned by how well the teachers knew my kid. These were at big public schools, too. I was very impressed.

Bad idea - a WISC only isn't going to answer OP's question. It won't tease out whether there's ADHD (gifted kids can have it!) and it won't tell OP whether her kid is gifted but has learning differences that hid the giftedness.
