How are the Mclean public schools-Chesterbrook, Longfellow, Mclean HS

We are considering moving to McLean and are wondering how the Chesterbrook elementary school is ranked? Does anyone have any positive or negative experiences about it? We have heard that Mclean HS is great but are wondering about the elementary and middle schools? Thanks!

I have only heard fantastic things about Chesterbrook. It's one of the smaller elementary schools in the area. I haven't personally met anyone whose kids go to Longfellow (mine are elementary age) but they walk by my house every day to and from school and there seems to be a mix of all types of kids (race, "style", etc.).

Longfellow is the best middle school in FCPS. All schools have relatively normal boundaries for FCPS and for the most part are neighborhood schools. Longfellow will be renovated by the time your young children go there and Mclean is renovated. The best FCPS has to offer. Also Chesterbrook doesn't have any special programs that divert staff and funding from regular education. Great choice of house and schools.

My children all attended Longfellow MS. For them, it was a great school. They took advantage of the unusual number of special programs offered in their years, ranging from math team to science olympiad to advanced instrumental and choral groups. The math and music departments are exceptional. Other departments are a mixed bag, but if you're lucky your child will get one of the great teachers in them.
