| What foods did your kids enjoy that first week after getting orthodontics? Need soft foods that are also substantial meals. |
| Smoothie with protein powder. Freeze banana and strawberries and other ingredients (except the milk/yogurt) so you don't have to water it down with ice. |
| Thanks. I didn't think of homemade smoothies for some reason. That's an excellent idea. |

Mashed potatoes...smoothies are good suggestion. Ice cream (if the child does not have weight issues)...

| Mashed potatoes and ice cream are good suggestions. What do you serve with them to make them more of a meal? |
| Chili, black beans and rice. Also my child was eating regular food by day 2. They all adjust / handle pain differently. YMMV. |
For a couple of days -- while things are bad -- don't worry about the nutrition. You have DS to be full and have energy |
| Mac and cheese, applesauce, chicken, melons, grapes |
| I had recently seen a Facebook friend who's kid was so traumatized by the experience...that he panicked. That child needs Ice Cream. |
| Chicken soup and yogurt smoothies (bought premade from the store) have worked well for my DD, who got her spacer this week. |

Thanks for all of the suggestions. He had a bowl of ice cream tonight after dinner and it was a big hit! I wound up doing a stir fry with veggies cooked soft and some diced chicken breast over rice. He did pretty o.k. with that.
I've also got black beans, chili, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese on hand plus yogurt and the ingredients for smoothies. And I also have chicken soup in the pantry so we should be good to go. Thanks! |

I excused my son from eating salad in public until he was very comfortable. I had braces at 40, and that was the worst.
Candy, bagels... You name it and I could eat it. But not salad without immediately retreating to the bathroom and my tooth brush. And no spinach under any circumstances. |

Ugh. Braces at 40 would be no fun. Especially if you have to give up or limit salad - I eat salad just about every day.
My son really likes fresh veggies too. I hope he'll be able to eat them once he gets used to his braces. |
| The first day my son wanted nothing but Ramen noodles. |
| hot cereal, steamed veggies - particularly carrots, yogurt, soup, ground beef and rice with cheddar cheese, sweet potatoes. |
