We put shag in our bedroom and love it! It's so soft on the feet. It's a few years old and looks new. I just lightly vacuum and occasionally steam clean.

Do they still make shag carpeting?
We have frieze carpeting in our (dry) basement family room and it is wonderfully soft. We chose a color with a mixture of lighter and darker tones, so it does not show dirt. |

If you have pets I would say no on the shag.

Wow. Shag carpeting is back? I remember raking that as a child in the living room. Bright orange. I don't think I could go back to that! ??? |
