in home care and healthcare advocate for my mom

Anonymous
My widowed mom lives in across the country and is having problems caused by a previous back surgery. I have no siblings or family members that live near her and I cannot stay with her for weeks on end to help her. (Young kids and full-time job of my own.) I do not feel confident enough to really advise her on next steps. I've heard about agencies that provide healthcare advocate services for seniors that involve scheduling and accompanying them to doctors appointments. These people have some kind of medical training that enables them to speak to physicians and act as a liaison to the adult children. She also needs in home care until she gets her back situation sorted out. If anyone has any information about these organizations I would be very grateful! I know I read about one several years ago but I can't find the info now.
TIA

A geriatric care manager can coordinate care, make referrals, etc. The one we used (not in DC) was also helpful in persuading a reluctant relative to accept more help.
