Tis. Thanks for sharing the article OP. Back in the day DS would come up with such creative and interesting ways to play with toys. His OT thought it showed how bright and creative it was, but everyone else (ST, teachers, "autism experts") insisted we actively teach DS the "right" way to play.On the one hand teaching "the right way" may have helped with social interaction, but IMO it stifled some really unique thinking. DS is totally a think outside of the box kid still and reactions from teachers and IAs range so much. Some love it and encourage it and others red flag it as more evidence my kid is weirdo and we need to discourage this type of creative interpretation. |
