2035, 2034, 2033 Girls

HOCO 2034 beat HG by 1 in a 22 min game. Would have been much more in a full game. Teams are catching up in the 1st half of games (like HG and MDU east) but then can’t hang in the 2nd half.
Watch for the full game next week at Genesis. I know you’ll be posted.

John Brown has been creeping in on all of the 2033 teams and telling his team lies about who is coming to the team. Why would any 2033 want to go to that team? Hero’s, HOCO, Coppermine, MDU East, BLC all doing so well without M&D.
I asked my 33 if she wanted to tryout there after he reached out and her response, “why would I do that?”

The courting of 5th grade girls is creepy. Develop your own players dawg.

It’s very strange.

Let’s not forget that M&D ’33 had to run supplemental tryouts last year. They might pick up a few new players, but true starting A‑level talent isn’t leaving their current situation unless their coach moves. Could they add some players to strengthen Red? Absolutely. But realistically, it’ll be lower‑A or high‑B girls, the ones looking for more playing time or a higher level of competition. Maybe a few A‑level girls take a swing at Black, but you’re not turning over two teams when you had to hold supplemental tryouts the year before. That’s the part he keeps selling, and it just doesn’t line up with reality.

So they’re just more fit than other teams?

Why would anyone want to go to M&D from
MDU, Coppermine, HOCO and BLC?

Asked and answered for the last decade.

You know the reasons why but your calculation or priorities may differ. Certainly you can stay the course and that might be great. My advice though, as a DMV parent with Capital as the big dog club, is just be watching to avoid being the last to turn the lights out or deciding to go when tryouts are pulling 100 kids.

Say what you want about JB’s communication style, but he’s good at evaluating talent and he knows his Xs and Os. He’s also well connected evaluating and coaching for Best in Class and Inside Lacrosse. One way or another the team will get stronger.

And I strongly suspect anyone approached by JB is more flattered than weirded out. Even if they have to say it’s weird in their humble brag here.

There is no doubt that M&D will continue to improve their teams, however there are a lot more options now a days for High Level club lacrosse with good coaching. This is a good thing for the sport and the area. Some people will be flattered, some people it will be a turn off.

Maybe for 33s? 34 big movement (full teams switching clubs was the rumor, ie, HOCO trying to go HOCO—>M&D) seems to be shut down. MDU seems to be falling apart at many age groups and possibly the 34 and 33 are two of them?

I do think this is the age where you will see some movement within teams. Especially after this heated season. I am curious as to why Hoco 34 is creating a white team though. While 34 black is doing amazing their 34 pink team didn't fair well this past weekend and their 35 black team who was in the same division as 34 pink dominated the competition and won the championship. Why build another team if your pink team isn't dominating as well ? Also how does that even work with having 3 teams. Don't all teams only have 1-2 teams per age group?

Technically M&D now has more than that per age group if you group M&D main, M&D DC and M&D Shore? Just a matter of semantics?

What? It’s not the same at all. M&D Shore and DC and Orlando and Minneapolis are in entirely different locales and they are not B and C and D and E teams of the original M&D.

A HOCO White team is for $$$. I have no real info but my guess is that two rec teams and coaches wanted something more then rec going into 5th grade (where rec falls apart) but somehow didn’t want to split up and try out for Pink (which seems odd). HOCO said sure we’ll take your money and curate a schedule and experience for a C team.

Girls lacrosse clubs don’t do this that I’ve seen. Hero’s could get enough if they wished. This is more a soccer club model. SAC has layers upon layers of teams. Since HOCO has a unique connection to the county rec program, they appear to be leveraging for any advantage they can get and for more coaches and players and ultimately $$.

Uhhh, have you seen how many teams Yellow Jackets has per Age group? Some of them have like 5. And no I am not talking about their "satellites/frachises" like YJ North, YJ DMV, i'm talking about LI Yellow Jackets.

It’s so hard to tell because they use the coach’s last name! And hard to tell who is their best team. I assume they still sort teams by talent, right?

By the way, this notion that there’s something wrong with teams trying to improve by bringing in talent from outside (aka other teams) is dumb. Every club and most teams do this. Some poach or happily receive a few and some may even take a large group of defectors from another team. They don’t just take the 3rd graders they get and go with them through high school and only fill spots if one leaves. This is widespread and not isolated to top clubs. It does not mean those teams aren’t trying their damndest to develop and win with who they have.
