advice?! Since its only 5 hours time difference- thinking to keep him on his schedule... he will sleep at 1am instead of 8pm. Is that realistic? We'd like to be able to be out and then sleep in so sounds logical but not sure. Trip is only 5 days...
Other advice for plane ride? gear? Hes a pretty chill kid but it will be his first time on a place since he was 3 months old. TIA |

We brought DC back to Scotland every year from 8 months to 3 years old and never changed his schedule or ours. However we also traveled in the summer when it is light for most of the day anyway.
Now that we moved to the west coast, we do change the kids schedules - the time difference is just too great. |

Or you could shift back just 2-3 hours and be on a late but not crazy late schedule. That's not too hard to do.
Are you taking the redeye? If so, book your accommodation so that you have a place to go sleep when you get there. |
We did this right around the same age. He refused to sleep before midnight but the good thing is that he would wake up around 9 or 10. We were there in the winter so it was nice not to have to leave the hotel at 6 or 7am searching for something to do (his usual wake up time in the U.S.) Worked out great! By the way, DS didn't sleep at all on either flight so be prepared for that possibility. |

We went over with DS at 15 months. He did not sleep on either flight, and actually watched a cartoon movie (without audio) twice during the whole flight over. We thought it was funny because he wasn't used to watching tv/movies so he was just zoned in front of the screen, but he was quiet and happy.
Sleep was an issue. DS was still taking a morning and afternoon nap and had trouble getting into any particular schedule. I'm not sure if it was related or just coincidence, but he took 2 naps a day for our whole trip and promptly dropped the morning nap as soon as we got back to the US. I didn't have the option of trying to keep him on his regular sleep schedule, but it sounds reasonable to me. |
