Success with a 5 or 6 cell FET?

Anonymous
Has anyone had a successful FET with a 5 or 6 cell embryo (day 3)? From everything I've read, it's optimal to have 3 day embryos that are 8 cells (but two of those didn't work for me either...) so I'm wondering why I spent the money to freeze 5 and 6 cell embryos if they're not even worth it?

My RE told me he went to a bar mitzvah for a "4-cell embryo" just recently. You never know which ones will continue to thrive, even with a slow start. Best of luck to you.

I got pregnant with a 16 and 10 cell fresh embryo transfer on day 5. At that time they are supposed to be 60 to 100 cells, so I had pretty much given up hope. Our RE was not optimistic either. After I got pregnant I was worried about birth defects or miscarrige but he explained that the slow growing only correlates to implanation problems, not others. I would be feeling the same way you are right now. I hope you end up with a nice surprise too. Best of luck to you.

I also want to encourage you not to give up!

I had a postive with great embryos, a negative with perfect embryos and now am pregnant again with one pretty darn crappy embryo.

Your chances of pregnancy are likely lower with a 5-6 cell day 3 but if you have any embryos put into your uterus, you have a chance at pregnancy! It might not be a spectacular chance but it is a real chance and embryos have a way of acting very suprisingly.

In my experience, IVF success is HIGHLY unpredictable. It's what makes it uttering maddening.
