on a major budget after home renovations any advice on a cheap basement carpet? thanks!

Depending on the square footage, you might want to look into one of those places that sells remnants. Bill's Carpet Warehouse and others like it.

Carpet squares for a basement. That way if there is water damage you may not have to replace the whole thing.

Commercial grade carpet. No padding. The padding is what gets ruined if there's water. It's fine without for the basement.
