Forgetting the endings

Anonymous
My whole life I've had trouble recalling the end of movies, books, stories after a matter of days. Anyone else have this?

Yes!! I can never remember the details of books, TV shows or movies. If I read a book I will be able to tell you if I liked it or not, but I won't be able to remember a bunch of details or how it ended.

Same here. I can watch a movie again if it's been awhile and truly be surprised at the ending.

OP here. I feel better knowing there are others like this. DH and kids can recite verbatim lines from movies after seeing them once, and I have no idea I saw it too.

Absolutely, I forget within hours of watching/reading (and I have a very good memory otherwise, on day-to-day stuff). I don't mind at all, it means no matter what someone else wants to watch/go see I can relax and enjoy it without knowing the ending. I think it is because movies/tv/books are my mindless entertainment time, so I don't have my memory/thinking switched on during those times.

Books and movies fall into the holes of my Swiss cheese memory. Details on people's lives do not. So I'm okay with not remembering books and movies!

Yes. It makes DH crazy but he's also jealous that I can enjoy shows/movies like it's the first time every time.

Once in college my friend told me that Cher hooks up with her stepbrother at the end of Clueless and I was like "What!? No!! That's DISGUSTING, this is America!"

And I'd seen Clueless maybe at least 2 times at that point.

This is the best! You can rewatch great movies and be surprised. I love when I finally forget what happens in a movie. Still waiting to forget the end of the 6th sense...

No not at all.

In fact, I can predict dialogue verbatim and plot twists. When Titanic first came out (I hadn't read any press or reviews) , my then boyfriend asked me if I wanted to see it. I said, "No, I didn't feel like watching Leonardo Dicaprio die." He had seen it already and asked, "How did you know?"

Since I read a lot, I usually forget the endings of books I have read.

However, I NEVER forget if an ending was good or bad.

Go figure. Selective memory at its finest.
