Odd jobs-who/how to hire

Anonymous
If you need to hire someone to do odd jobs around your house how do you find them/how much do you pay? For example, if I need help moving a couple heavy things from upstairs to basement and clearing a cluttered she'd do I need to hire a mover for the furniture and some garage professional for the shed or can I find someone (easily-will pay well though!) to just help me get shit done?

Last year we had an insanely heavy couch that needed to be moved up a pretty tight flight of stairs. We put an ad on Craigslist for $25 for 1 guy (DH was the other guy) and had more interest than we could handle. Had it done within 2 hours. Was the guy a crackhead looking for some cash? I don't know, didn't care much though and he was only in our house for a short time, we don't have much worth scoping out to steal, and we were both home. Worked great. I tried Task Rabbit and no one picked up the work.

If you're open to vetting the person yourself, I'd probably look and see if there are any area garage sale/community groups on Facebook. I didn't know about those when I posted on Craigslist. Those are even better because you can look at the person's page and they are using their real name (usually). Have hired a guy to mow the lawn as a one-time thing off a Facebook group, bought and sold a ton, found a handyman... no problems.

Moving companies probably wouldn't touch the job for under $100.
