DS resides with his dad to finish out his few years left in HS with his friends. Although DS lives with his dad, I claim him on my taxes.
How does this work if DS were to attend a college/university in MD? Does the admissions office look at the fact that he attended a DC school and therefore can't be instate? |
| He's a DC resident. Residency is where he lives. |
| If he wants MD residency or you need MD residency to afford college, have him move in with you for a year after he graduates from HS and work for that year, helping to save for living expenses, books, whatever, and then he will qualify for the MD resident rate. |
If this is his last year or two of high school, claim MD residency for the kid and then pay OSSE the tuition. I believe it is roughly $10,000. |
| Have him switch to MD public for his last year of hs |
| Call the damn university and ask them! |
| Isn't there reciprocity for DC residents at all US colleges that receive public assistance? I thought they get treated as in-state anywhere no -private? |
|
Look at the Maryland rules here. If child is financially dependent on a Maryland resident he may qualify.

| Pretty sure that DC residents get in-state tuition at all state colleges --- look into that. |
|
No! DC students do not get in-state tuition at all state colleges. In fact, they get in-state tuition at zero state colleges.
There is a subsidy but you have to apply. http://osse.dc.gov/service/dc-tuition-assistance-grant-dc-tag |
| The subsidy for DC residents get 10k off out of state tuition or instate tuition, which ever is less. |
No |
This is still pretty good. We have no cause to complain (DC residents). |
| Do you work in dc? |
Nope. They get a subsidy that seems more and more modest as state university tuitions skyrocket. The subsidy does not come close to in-state tuition and every year the funding is at risk. |
