| Instead of sweet? Do you generally pack savory lunches? |
| Other than fruit and yogurt, what is in a sweet lunch? |
| Sweet as in the Nutella sandwiches or the Fruit flavored and fruit infused Cream cheese sandwiches that are seeming more popular as the ability to use peanut butter or other nut butters diminishes. |
|
I am the first PP. I always pack savory lunches. Nothing sweet other than fruit and maybe an occasional yogurt tube.
Would never give a nutella sandwich (seems like breakfast at best) and DS doesn't like cream cheese. But that said I can't imagine that either of those on ocassion would hurt a child. |
| Pbj is sweet |
| In my world, anything with nutella is dessert. |
|
Given the obesity crisis and the new data about how detrimental sugar can be, I would definitely NOT be giving my kids "sweet" lunches.
I'm not saying no sweets at all, ever. But I think Michael Pollan said it best when he said, "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." |

What Eating 40 Teaspoons of Sugar a Day Can Do to You

| Fruit salad could be a healthy sweet lunch. |

Savory, except for fresh fruit.
DD doesn't eat sandwiches either - she wont (3 yrs). She eats cooked broccoli w/parm, cooked carrots, cottage cheese, unsweetened applesauce, strawberries, fresh apple slices w/lemon, homemade rice & beans (cooked dry beans), organic veggie soup, spaghetti, hard boiled eggs, cucumbers, etc. . DD isn't hungry much for dinner, so I try to pack in as much nutrition as possible for her lunches. |
This sounds like a wonderful diet. Kudos to you for having her eat so well. BTW- don't push bread on her. I myself grew up not really liking bread and now that I'm older I'm so glad I never really developed a taste for it, unlike most people who seem to crave it. It's not particularly healthy, either. |
