I'd love to hear any experiences any of you have had with Coeus International School on Conn Ave, good or bad. Particuliarly how it compares to WIS as being another dual immersion bilingual option.
I'm also curious as to why Coeus and WIS aren't mentioned as frequently on this board as much as the other top private schools in NW DC (Maret, GDS, Sidwell, etc). Are WIS and Coeus really that far behind these others academically? Any input on Coeus or this second topic is much appreciated!! Thanks! |
they're just not as "flashy" as the other schools. |
Didn't look at Coeus--was put off by the controversy over Hollinger and the bankruptcy of Rock Creek International. Also never heard of Rock Creek as being in the same class as WIS. We did look at WIS and decided against because we were not confident that the instruction would be as rich and creative as that at Sidwell, GDS, etc. There was a recent thread on WIS that you may want to consult. |
As someone said in the WIS thread, some people choose not to go the route of an immersion program because of concerns that other academics will suffer. My anecdote: I know a child from one such school (now defunct) who was behind in math compared to peers at the next school s/he went to. Personally, I'm all for children learning other languages, but it's not my top priority for my child, so I'm not looking at immersion programs. |
