Are these generally a cash amount that you use for your individual needs or does the company just write the check for movers etc?

Really depends but normally includes a set amount (if overseas, an x size container up to x lbs), staying in a hotel for a set period while you find permanent housing, a subsidy for security deposits etc if renting...

Can't think of a case in which they would give a lump sum of cash. Typically they will reimburse up to a certain amount for certain categories of expenses, and you need to submit receipts in order to be reimbursed.

Oh I didn't even think of security deposits! I'll put it on the list for when we have our meeting
