Best Place You Ever Traveled with the Under 5 Crowd

What vacation do you think was best for your family when the kids were under 5? Why?

I feel like this age is so tough because we don't want to spend a lot of money only to have tantrums or naps eat up time at a Park or Resort we have spent the money on. Interest is activities is fleeting and ability to do things isn't always there.

Give me the "money isn't a factor" and the "budget friendly" version of this advice please!

Acadia national park. Easy hikes that are still pretty/interesting for adults, variety of kid friendly restaurants, lots of ice cream, small area so not hard to go back for naps. No time change to go there, although does involve both plane trip and car ride.

We had a great time at this resort in San Antonio. We got a 2 BR. Suites have a kitchen, and they did the dishes for us every day. Kids loved the lazy river and campfires with smores. Went to art museums in San Antonio and had great tex mex food. Sea world is nearby, if you are interested. My kids were 4 and 2. We went in October, and the weather was great.

I have to agree that Bar Harbor / Acadia NP is an excellent place with lots to do, short things. I went with a 14 month old. We went to Vancouver, BC, Canada with a 4 year old and that is an awesome city. We had a car and traveled around. Four days in Victoria and a week in Vancouver.

We did the budget friendly travel to BC, used frequent flyer miles, rented condos (homeaway) (ate breakfast/ lunch from supermarket)
We did one thing in the morning every day and a park in the afternoon, there are so many parks and the people are so nice.

Truthfully -- Hawaii. We rented a house near Kailua for a week (the same week Obama was there!). The vibe is so relaxed, the water is beautiful, and there is no rush to get anywhere. Stayed at the beach all day and ate shaved ice.

Beaches Turks & Caicos. Plenty of fun with the kids, but could put them in camp for a few hours to go out to dinner.

Plus any vacation where we involve my parents, who will watch the kids and give us some alone time.

Cape Charles beach. Small, not over crowded. Driving distance from DC. All vacation homes an easy walk from the beach. Shallow ocean for a long way out so super good for small ones. Nothing to do but hang out on beach, eat ice cream and nap. Perfect for this age range.

We just got back from a cruise to Bermuda out of Baltimore with our toddler. It was great to not have to deal with a long flight or drive, or worry about meals. They took amazing care of him in the dining room! There was babysitting available in the nursery if we wanted adult time, and since the ship docked in a single port we were able to get back on the ship for lunch/naps.

If your kids are slightly older, I think the kids club activities start at 3. Then it's free babysitting!

The only way we were able to do it though is we had two connecting rooms, so baby could nap in one and an adult would be in the other. I'm not sure we would have enjoyed it with a single room.

our favorite vacation for under 5 is the beach--- our oldest is 5, and we have two under that. We have done the beach for 4 years now. We like Ocean City the best- we stay at an Ocean Front hotel with a nice balcony. Our favorite is Holiday Inn & Suites. We eat breakfast and lunch in the room and we eat dinner out or order in. We enjoy sitting on the balcony watching the ocean and drinking wine while the kids are napping. While the kids are awake we have no expectation of 'relaxation' on the beach. We have stopped bothering to even drag chairs out- we bring a blanket and toys and play with them. We like hotels better than houses b/c of maid service, everything supplied, room service, etc.
