Bathroom renovation + add bathroom

Anonymous
We have a small row house with one bathroom, which needs to be gutted. While we are doing all this work, we are considering trying to add a bathroom (shower) upstairs as well. Has anyone added an adjacent bathroom while renovating their original bathroom? I'm thinking we could shave space and save time ($$$) in doing this. Alternatively, we could put the bathroom on the other side of the house, which potentially is a more natural place for it, but I imagine would cost more.

Do you have another place to live while this is being done?

Hmm, what is the bearing of that on this particular question? We are planning a lot of work, some of which will require us to be out of the house for an extended time, in which case, yes we will arrange another place to live. We have a basement toilet and shower (not a bathroom per se) which will be available during construction.
