Cape Charles, Virginia?

Anonymous
Has anyone ever been to Cape Charles?

It's out on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, near Virginia Beach and accessed by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. I was looking at some nice beach house rentals on the water there, and I love this description from the Virginia.org website:

The beach is safe for families with small children. The shallow waters of the Chesapeake Bay, clean and refreshed by our proximity to the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean, make delightful vacations for mothers. There are no waves here. Mothers can relax here while their children splash and play in the oversized wading pools of Cape Charles beaches.

So, has anyone been there? It's supposed to have a historic downtown, and it seems like it would be a relaxing getaway.

I guess nobody's been there! Oh well. We decided to take the plunge and rented this house for a week in August: http://www.vrbo.com/55655

I've never been there but we considered it.

I remember that someone on the DCUM listserv raved about it (I found it in the archives of the listserv)

I've been there to fish several times in the last couple years. It is a very quiet/quaint town. Not much night life, but a good getaway.
My bro-in-law and his family were there last week for spring break and loved it. His family and ours are planning to rent for a long weekend this summer together.
If you have a boat and like to fish, this is an awesome destination for you.
If you want peace and quiet in a sleepy seashore town - this is also the place for you.

Enjoy!

Our family went there for the first time last summer for 1 week. It is great for babies and toddlers b/c the water is so calm. You can walk a ways into the water before it gets deep at times. My 5 year old started to get bored after the 3rd or 4th day. There isn't a whole lot to do there besides going to the beach. We don't fish or boat like the PP.
