book recommendations for 10-11 year old boy

Anonymous
Any book recommendations for a 10-11 year old boy who loved Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus/Kane Chronicles, Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, Merlin, Five Kingdoms, Alex Rider? He is finishing the Hunger Games trilogy now and loving it though I was a little reluctant to let him read that initially. Any books recommended for the younger teen or late tween age group would be really appreciated. (I found an old thread but it was for a 10 year old who wasn't into the Percy Jackson and related books.) Thanks!!

Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper
Almost anything by Rosemary Sutcliffe

Cooper won the Newberry for The Grey King, and Sutcliffe was a major mid20th-c writer of YA HiFi

Was coming in to suggest both the Chronicles of Prydain and the Dark is Rising books. I remember both from 30 years ago and loved them!

Yeah, my son loved it and is now trying Lord of the Rings (which is slower going, but still enjoyable for him).

Check out Gordon Korman. He writes great books for boys. Ungifted is particularly funny.

Also check http://www.guysread.com/ for lists of books.

My DD loved the books you mentioned and is now a big fan of Erin Hunter's Warrior Cats series. My nephew read them too.

My son loved the Ranger's Apprentice series.

If your children enjoy non-fiction, Rick Atkinson has introduced some "Young Readers Adaptation" of his books. My son is enjoying them.
