I sprung for it for my 8 yr old cat... her breath was bad and gums were starting to look a little red. Just as bad dental hygiene is linked to other diseases in humans, I figured the same would be true for cats so I viewed it as a preventative measure because I'd like her to live a nice long life. It was expensive but luckily her teeth were in pretty good shape and the vet told me we probably won't have to have it done again. Unfortunately, her breath didn't improve... It must be her tongue that smells.
