This is my second pregnancy and it didn't happen in my first...anyway, whenever I (try) to drink water, it tastes sickly sweet like fruit. I can't stand it. And it's not a problem with the water source -- I've tried bottled water, filtered water, tap water, it all has this sick sweet taste to me.
I'm constantly sick with "morning" sickness at least 5x a day and am losing fluid, so it's important that I drink (my pee is totally dark now). But it seems like this pregnancy has just changed my taste buds. Any advice? Anyone else this has happened to? I've tried drinking gingerale and coke to get some fluids but those seem even worse, like my throat is being coated in sugar. I'm 8 weeks along if that matters. |
| normal! |
| I hated drinking water in the first half of both pregnancies. It does feel sickening. So bizarre! |
| Try adding some lemon or cucumber to change the flavor, or try carbonated water. |
| As for advice, try cold milk, peppermint tea, gingerale, juicy fruits, popsicles, ice in everything, etc. |
| Same here. Sometimes it tastes matalic, sometimes sweet. I thought it was just me! |
| I found I gagged on water unless it was really cold. Sadly, this persisted (though not to the same degree) beyond pregnancy. It's been almost 2 years and I still vastly prefer to drink my water ice cold, whereas I used to not care. And I drink a lot of water so this is an issue for me! |
| Oh my gosh. Going through this exact same thing! I normally drink at least 64 oz of water everyday, but I'm struggling to get 20 these days! Ugh... it tastes disgusting to me, like sweet bad breath. (And I normally love water). I've tried everything and it works for like a day and then I can't do it anymore. Sparkling water was the best and lasted 5 days, but nope, no more! Now I'm drinking kool aid. I hate all the extra sugar, but I mix it myself so it's not so sweet. I feel ridiculous at work with my bottle of grape kool aid concentrate! |

Try watermelon? Even at 14 weeks, things taste weird to me. Sweet things taste really, really sweet.
Maybe herbal tea, unsweetened, cold or hot? Or infused water with mint, lemon, other fruit? Definitely drink it cold to see if that helps. |
| This happens to me every pregnancy. Fiji bottled water is the only I can stomach. |
| Orange juice and Izze saved me. Also very sour lemonade |

Try mixing a small amount of juice with water. It changes the flavor and makes it more appealing, while keeping you from drinking so much sugar.
Water doesn't taste bad to me during this pregnancy, but it makes me feel a little more nauseous than other things. I've been addicted to OJ and lemonade mixed with water -- the citrus feels good. Bubbly water also helps distract from the flavor and can be calming for your stomach, too. You can mix regular bubbly with a small amount of juice to give it some flavor if you don't like it by itself. |
