You just need your drivers license. The US side is basically nothing. There are no restaurants beyond Dennys...seriously. I was pretty unimpressed by both sides.

Canadian side is WAY better. You can see the Canadian "Horseshoe" falls from the NY side - but you get much more up close and personal if you are on the Canadian side. The NY side is interesting, but not nearly as breathtaking.

Expect delays crossing the border--add an extra hour to your travel time.

You just need your drivers license.

Actually, I'm not sure this is true anymore. Sometime this summer- I think I read maybe June 1 or July 1? - passports will be mandatory for entry of US citizens into Canada (every other nationality has to do that now anyway). Before then, you have to have something that proves both identity and citizenship - something that a drivers license doesn't do. In addition, I think there is some weird thing where at the moment you may not need a passport to get into Canada, but need to show a passport to re-enter the US.

Anyway, it is definitely worth checking out if you decide to go to the Canadian side.

The US side is not great. Definitely worth the effort to cross the border.

There is a charming town on the Canadian side about 20 minutes North of the Falls - it is called Niagara-on-the-Lake. I highly recommend it!

I don't remember which side we were on, but we saw For Niagara, and that was also worth seeing and close to the falls.

I meant "Fort Niagara", not "For Niagara".
