Weight loss from no booze

Anonymous
I've gained ten lbs since I got married. I'm a petite woman and it is noticeable. I recently quit drinking. I had been drinking around ten drinks a week. A good portion of this was in beer and not light beer. I also would need an unhealthy meal following a hangover. Has anyone quit drinking and lost weight from not drinking alone?

Each time I got pregnant, I immediately lost 5-7 pounds - I assume just from not drinking. Alcohol is a no joke diet killer.

No. I have never lost weight from just cutting out alcohol. I only drink on weekends with rare glasses of wine on week days for special occasions.

I never drank when I was pregnant, not even a sip. Still gained weight from the get go.

Same. Big drinker but never lost weight initially in pregnancy.

I have a friend who lost a ton of weight by quitting drinking. He used to eat a huge, unhealthy meal before going to sleep after binge drinking on the weekends.

I lost 13 lbs when I quit drinking beer. 9 of those lbs in the first month. I was drinking about 12 beers a week.

If you drank a lot you can lose weight. Just don't replace it with soda.

How much did you weigh originally?

I was at about 150, I think. Age was mid-30s. I'm 5'4".

Ok. Thanks. If I even lost five pounds I'd be thrilled. I'm around 113 now and want to get down to 108. I'm five three.

Yeah, I'd think that dropping 10 beers would create a noticeable amount of weight loss. You need to replace it with something like sparkling water with no calories and a similar mouth feel since you are going to be craving those beers, I'd expect.

Did you ever go back to drinking? If so, what do you drink now?

I have lost weight from cutting down on alcohol. I don't know whether it was just the alcohol or the mindless snacking that went along with it.

yes when I cut out wine during the week I am usually a few pounds lighter. Cutting 10 beers a week should make a big difference for you - as long as you don't replace those calories with some other caloric drink (like soda, juice etc) or additional food.
