Easy places to get away alone (via flight) -- Friday-Sunday

Anonymous
For various reasons, I'm really in the mood to go away someplace; however having started a new job, I have no time off and the most I could do would be leave from DCA on Friday evening and return Sunday afternoon. Question is -- where? I'd like to stay in the U.S. and a direct flight. I'd also love to be someplace where once you land, you can cab it to your location and be walkable -- so as to decrease the time renting a car, figuring out where to go, returning the car before the flight etc. I love small cities, music, football (too soon for that -- though I guess any sports are ok). And given that I'm a single woman, it has to be someplace where it's ok for a woman to be out alone at 10 pm. Thoughts? All I can come up with is Nashville.

Oh and I don't swim so I'm not a beach person. Much prefer to walk around a city/town than lying on the beach.

Austin? Not sure how long of a flight, but if you could get direct that could be great.
Charleston

Nashville is not 100% walkable, but is compact enough that cab rides are quick. Music, food, and lively.

Burlington VT also comes to mind. But might be smaller and sleepier than you want.

Athens is awesome--great food and great music--but I can't imagine you can get the flights you want in and out of Athens, and flying in and out of Atlanta is a total PITA. I would take regular trips to Athens if it wasn't so damn hard to get there.

Boston is a good suggestion. Chicago?

Another vote for Boston. So much to do there.

Miami!

I immediately thought Boston. North End for food, shopping, historic places, you could go up to Marblehead for a day.

Definitely either Boston or Charleston. They are both easy, short direct flights. I lean just a little more toward Charleston. So much charm and just about perfect for a quick weekend trip.

Savannah or Charleston. More direct flights to Charleston, I think. Both cities you can walk around for days.
