Need some timely advice, my toenail won't stop bleeding.

I'm not even sure how this happened. About 20 minutes ago I stubbed my baby toe on our heavy trunk like coffee table and it nearly ripped the nail clean off. Its bleeding a great deal. I ran it under water to clean it and just washing the area caused the nail to come off the rest of the way.

I've used compression and wrapped it up. I've elevated it. Its still bleeding quite a bit. I am trying to stay calm and not alarm my 3 year old. I know this isn't an ER worthy thing but I'm starting to get very woozy. I'm also reluctant to drop into my doctors office for just a stubbed toe but I'm worried because it won't stop bleeding.

I must have soaked 7 tissues in the beginning and several gauze pads. Its wrapped up now, but I can feel its wet and I can see red seeping up the top.

Any advice? Should I go to my dr? How long should I wait.

I feel dumb for being worried over a ripped toe nail but this is a lot of blood.

Can anyone reassure me that it is normal for it to be bleeding so much?

BTW I am not on any medicines and only take a daily vitamin, fish oil and calcium.

Are you completely off your feet? If you've got a 3 year old With you I imagine you keep putting weight on it. Even for a split second, that can cause the bleeding to start back up.

Can you call someone over to drive you to urgent care? Even an Uber? It would be worst for you to pass out with your 3 year old there.

That might be it. I've finally got her settled next to me so maybe that will help. I'm afraid to take the bandage off but I do think its still bleeding - I now have it elevated and iced.

Thank you, just talking to someone else about this is making me less panicky.

That is a good plan. My parents actually took my older kids for an outing today. They should be back in the next 20-30 minutes or so - if it is still bleeding I might just have my dad take my while my mom watches them. Thank you.

Fish oil is a blood thinner. DH can't take it, he gets nosebleeds.

But it probably is just a bit deeper than you're used to. Not abnormal, just more than a little scratch or cut.

THhis has just happened to me and it has been bleeding loads. How long did it take to stop bleeding ?

Bleeding breathing broken. These are incidents worthy of emergency treatment. For something like this, yes, that can be Urgent Care.

Can I ask you what happened in the ER? I’m facing the same situation snd almost in tears thinking about what they will do at the ER and how bad it will hurt. But it’s been 24 hours and it’s still bleeding.

Gosh, no, PP, relax. They can medicate you for pain. Please go if you've bled a lot and need stitches.
